Verse 1:
Am F C G
Undiscovered by my curiousity was the choice that would change my whole life...
Am F C G
Undercover in the truth he shared with me was the warning my father tried to guide...
Am F C G
He said, "Son, would you please listen to me? I want to give you everything that I can."
Am F C G
He said, "Nothing is free; there's a price for everything. It's so important that you understand."
Chorus:
Am F C G
He said, "Follow your dreams; even with uncertainty. These wings will help you follow your path,
Am F C G
But caution to things underneath what they might seem, and only you can judge the place where you're at."
Verse 2:
Am F C G
My father told me I would be misunderstood, disbelieved, overlooked, and abused...
Am F C G
Disrespected at the hands of lesser men; even hated and falsely accused.
Am F C G
He had told me they would envy my gifts, and that genius is often misunderstood.
Am F C G
"...They're not like us; they're afflicted with fear, and they have a hard time with finding what's good
[Repeat Chorus]
Verse 3:
Am F C G
Now I'm broken; just a shadow of a man who had flown too close to the sun...
Am F C G
Beaten angel with a curse to walk the earth until my very own redemption's been done...
Am F C G
My broken wings curse everything; it's so hard not to live life with regret...
Am F C G
But I'll try to be better than me; I'll master lessons I had learned to forget...
[Repeat Chorus / END]
P.S. I never meet my father, but as a loving father I can imagine such stories.
If I was given wings of wax, then EQUALITY would be the sun that melts the wings
of those ambitious enough to pursue it.
