#JNAFILES, x , Hindsight
---------------
Hi,
Hindsight is a gift if you’re willing to analyze
& break it down in an honest way. When I look back,
I realize I was dealt a pretty interesting hand
into this world. I’m 1st Gen American, both of my
parents are from a small country in Africa. My father
was awarded a scholarship to attend school here &
crafted a plan for him and my mother to move to
America, temporarily, I’m guessing for education
and maybe to start a family, and then move back
to their country. The American dream got the best
of them. But...They knew where they came from
which reflected in their ambition and work ethic.
My sister and I knew nothing more of our parents
than being hard working individuals with a deep
love for their family and culture. Still the case
today. [Random: 'Sandlot' is nostalgic btw. Im
watching as I type this.] Ironically, summarizes
me as a kid. Struggling to fit in psychologically.
In our house, it was Africa. Outside of our house
it was the American Culture. To really draw the
picture in an honest way, I didn't look like a
lot of the people around me outside of my house
(I'm black), nor sound like what people "expected"
(almost despise this word)me to sound like
(immigrant parents learn proper technical English.
No slang or cultured lingo. Just plain style
proper English). Confusing and interesting as a
child on so many fronts. However, curiosity and
adventure was born from this experience. Im still
this way today. I would argue even more so now than
then. Shit, I'm here journaling on-chain with a tiny
idea what this looks like in the future, but not a
care either. I'm just here traveling and learning.
I could go on and on about my childhood and maybe
I will sprinkle a story or two in the future, but
for now this is enough context for you to understand
that I value these childhood experiences deeply
because I was given a gift of understanding and
empathizing with others. This gift is probably
the only reason I was able to create some of the most
meaningful experiences in my life. People, opportunity,
and grit is really all we need in this life. Thanks for
