🌕 2024 PT5 is a newly discovered mini-moon that will temporarily orbit Earth from September 29 to November 25, 2024. This small asteroid, measuring about 11 meters in diameter, was discovered in August 2024 and belongs to the Arjuna asteroid group.
🌍 These asteroids have orbits similar to Earth's and sometimes get temporarily captured by our planet's gravity. During its time as a mini-moon, 2024 PT5 will come as close as 567,000 kilometers to Earth.
🔭 However, it won't complete a full orbit around Earth and will return to its usual orbit around the Sun after the two-month period. Unfortunately, it's too small and faint to be visible to the naked eye or even with most amateur telescopes.
📅 If you're curious, it's predicted that 2024 PT5 will make another appearance in Earth's vicinity in 2055
