I'm a survivor of childhood abuse - including sexual. I was emancipated - literally the word the state used - at 13 from my mom. My whole life has been defined by this struggle, even when I don't want it to be, to try to help myself, my mom and others.
I have condemed and will continue to condem predatory behavior no matter the gender, religion, sexuality, or any other identity markers of an individual. Women, governments, many many marginalized groups who are affected by this and much of the world is saying enough is enough.
I also at the core believe in human rights and providing help to those who are hurt and hurt others while neutralizing the threat they offer to a peaceful, safe and equal society. I'm unsure what that looks like exactly, but I know my experiences in healing.
I think early childhood intervention to teach coping mechanisms to children who have been subjected to these heinous crimes can allow them to lead while maybe not a normal life, but find peace and contentment - because I know everyday I get closer.
To exact real change and healing, not only do the bad guys need to be locked up - there needs to be resources given to grassroots org who are helping with this across the US, Mexico and the World. Right here in Mexico City there is ArtePro who is a shining example of how to help victims.
Abuse doesn't happen in a vaccuum - it happens in the shadows where good people don't normally want to go out of fear or apathy because at the core I learned as a small child predators are cowards. Abusers most the time have been abused themselves, never told it was wrong or as long as people don't see it or as long as they aren't the one being abused and takes that abuse out on others in endless cycles of generational trauma.
Many of us are trying to stop that each in our own way - including a lot of childless cat + dog ladies - because one thing that happens when your abused repeatedly as a child is the thought of bringing a child into the world is terrifying and since many of us were robbed of our youth want to just spend our adulthood living the life we never could have.
I have the deepest gratitude to everyone who everyday tries to help people like us by opening their minds and hearts to our stories and taking action to bring justice - not revenge - but real justice to those who on mental, spiritual, physical, sexual and financial levels define their life by hurting and exploiting others.
I pray and meditate and all my juju everyday this horrible cycle humanity has found itself in ends here.
